Tutor when it’s convenient to you

Once you are registered and we have checked your references we will contact you when suitable tutoring jobs arise and put you in touch with students or their parents.

You set your own rates but we have a recommended Table of Tutor Fees (see below). Hourly rates for tutors tend to be £15 to £35 depending on experience and teaching level. You do not pay to register with us, we charge a set commission of £5 per hour of tuition you obtain, so that tuition fees to learners tend to be £20 to £40 per hour. The first lesson is charged at £10. We do not take commission for this lesson.

Tutor Fees

Darwin tutor agency charges £5 per one hour lesson commission. Tutors are self-employed. You may set your own fees. Below is a table of hourly fees we suggest is acceptable in the south-east of England. Fees stated below include the commission fee.
PRIMARY £20 - £30
£25 - £35
‘A’ LEVEL £25 - £38
DEGREE £35 - £55

Charges for multiple students

Each additional student pays half price and the total is split between the number of students equally ie 2 students at A level £28 for student one £14 for student two, total for one hour £42, each pays £21. Commission is charged at the same ratio ie £2.50 for each additional student.

Block bookings

We suggest you offer a discount for block bookings ie more than 10 hours of lessons 10% reduction. You can deduct this percentage from commission. Ten lessons at £24 each booked in advance and paid in advance would be £240 and £50 commission due. Discount £216, commission £45.

DBS certificates

The enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate is an official document which shows there is no known recorded reason why a person cannot work with children or vulnerable adults. If you do not have a DBS certificate you must be willing to obtain one. We may be able to help you get one - please ask. They cost around £60. We cannot register you without one.

Two references are requested one from an educational referee and another from an employer or someone you know professionally or who has known you for a long time. We provide a standard reference form that you can send to your referees for their convenience. We will check referees so please provide contact details ie telephone numbers/addresses.

Contracts and Fees

The agency takes £5 commission per lesson. We ask you to sign and return our standard terms and conditions and to complete time sheets and feedback sheets if the client requests them. The tutor receives payments direct from the learners or parents. They co-sign the time-sheets. Fees and time sheets must be sent to the agency on the fourth of the month. Find timesheets on our website and Feedback sheets to download and print/ copy and paste and print.
